 A Note from Pastor's Desk

Greetings in the blessed name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!  I am glad you found our website and I pray it will provide you the needed information concerning
our church family.  We have a loving, caring, and friendly church.  Our people are warm, outgoing and love to worship and fellowship together.  We are truly one
family in Christ!

 

I have had the privilege of serving The Tabernacle family since August 2005.  I am honored to succeed Pastor Neville Gritt who served as Senior Pastor for thirty-two years.  Under his leadership, the church grew and flourished and through his biblical preaching and teaching, a firm foundation has been laid.  The Lord has provided The Tabernacle with over sixty acres of property in one of the most strategic locations in Sarasota.  It is our desire to reach people with the good news of God’s forgiveness through Christ and to see them growing and overflowing with the Holy Spirit on a continual basis.

 

Our church can be described as a Charismatic Interdenominational fellowship.  We believe that celebrative, passionate, intimate worship touches the heart of God and ushers in His presence.  In the midst of His presence we have the expectation that
the miraculous and supernatural will happen.  Though we love the presence and touch of the Holy Spirit, we also place a high priority on the Scriptures. It is our conviction that when you combine the Word and the Spirit--there is a spiritual combustion in the heavenlies that releases an anointing and power!

 

Most of my ministry, I served as a Senior Pastor in Southern Baptist churches.  I graduated from Southwest Baptist College, Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and thought I had my theology neatly wrapped up in a nice little system.  But, in March 2000, at a Fresh Wind Fresh Fire Conference led by Pastor Jim Cymbala, I experienced the fresh
wind of the Holy Spirit filling me in a way I had never experienced.  I received what many refer to as the baptism "in" the Holy Spirit that dramatically transformed my
life.  The experience was so profound that it caused me to reevaluate my theological position on the Holy Spirit and to restudy the Scriptures.  After months of study, and reading books by "Andrew Murray", RA Torrey, DL Moody, Charles Finney and others—I changed my theological position on the Holy Spirit and praise God—I will never be the same!

 

I have been married to my precious wife, Pam, for thirty-four years. We have been blessed with two sons. Andrew is married to Stacie Burnside and they have two children, Lia and Judah. James is married to Whitney Medred and they are the parents of Kaylin & Hunter. We are enjoying our grandchildren, the next generation
to pursue Christ!

 

Well, this gives you a brief description of our church and my family. We would love
to have you and your family worship with us.  If you do not have a church home, it
is my prayer that you will visit with us this Sunday as we pursue His presence!
