Hurricane Ian Relief Opportunities

PRAY, GIVE, GO

The Tab family has several ways to help their neighbors in Florida who have been impacted by Hurricane Ian.

PRAY Daily prayers are needed for those who have lost loved ones, homes, furniture, personal possessions, animals and entire neighborhoods. Pray for comfort, financial support, decision-making of individuals and community leaders, local churches, the volunteers and disaster relief personnel. Lift up the depressed, the hopeless, the confused, the overwhelmed and the broken-hearted.

GIVE  The Tab is collecting money for Samaritan’s Purse, or you can give directly at samaritanspurse.org. This is Franklin Graham’s organization that is already on the ground at several locations with organized disaster relief.

We will also be collecting items that are needed to help families. During October you can bring the following items to the church annex. There is an immediate need for:

Diapers (especially size 4 & 5)

Diaper Wipes

Hand Wipes

Hand Sanitizer

Insect Repellent

$10 Wal-Mart Gift Cards

GO We are organizing day volunteers to do physical labor to clean out and temporarily repair damaged homes in the Englewood area through Samaritan’s Purse. Volunteers are asked to sign a Statement of Faith as we are representing Jesus to the families we help.

Weekday volunteer days are currently being organized, and a large church volunteer day is being organized for Saturday, Oct. 29. Work includes cleaning up yard debris, moving ruined belongings to the street, removing wet wallboard and ceilings & insulation, installing temporary tarps on roofs, cleaning out kitchens, shoveling, sweeping, mopping, treating for mold & mildew, etc. A team leader for each home is provided by Samaritan’s Purse. Half-days are available.

There is no age limit as long as you can do physical labor. Teens ages 14-15 are allowed, but must be accompanied by a parent; ages 16-17 can be accompanied by a parent or youth group leader. Registration & Accident Waivers can be found at samaritanspurse.org or can be signed on location at Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Pine Street, Englewood, FL 34223. Arrival time is 7:20 a.m.

It is recommended that volunteers wear work boots or leather soles & long pants and bring a bagged lunch, water, hand sanitizer, insect repellant, a hat, & work gloves. Tools, clean-up equipment, safety goggles, masks, safety orientation & a Samaritan’s Purse t-shirt are provided on-site.  If you want to go, please contact Janet Kerley for further information at email: janetkerley7@gmail.com.
